British Columbia Poker Championship

The World Series Of Poker 2010 Main Event wasn't Matthew Jarvis' first poker tournament. In fact, he went out on the bubble in the British Columbia Poker Championship. He made $20,000, in doing so. However, that's nothing compared to what he stands to potentially make in the WSOP Main Event.

Background

Matthew is a resident of Surrey, British Columbia. Although he is a business student, he quickly picked up the game of poker. He also loves to study and learn. So, once he started, he began to read everything he could about poker strategy. He is one of only 9 Canadian players who made it through day 7 of the 2010 WSOP and a lot of that could be attributed to his studying and his drive.

His WSOP Battle

The first 6 days of the WSOP event were fairly uneventful for Matthew Jarvis. He slowly watched others go out of the tournament. He played a smart game and made it to day 7 with no real problems. In fact, he was sitting in a comfortable 6th place.

Matthew Jarvis is from Surrey, British Columbia. So, it should come as no big surprise that his biggest tournament score was in British Columbia. It was at the British Columbia Poker Championship, where he bubbled the final table, earning a little over $20,000.

Pocket Aces

Jarvis suddenly found himself faced with a monster hand. He had pocket aces. The fact that he had “pocket rockets” was absolutely too good to pass up. So, he raised in early position, making it 240,000 to call. He got two callers, which only served to sweeten the pot for him. One of them was Patrick Eskandar.

As the flop came, Jarvis was in good shape. The flop was 8d-Kc-9c. Jarvis bet 425,000. Eskandar took a moment. Then, he pushed his remaining 1.965 million into the pot. The third player folded.

Jarvis, in turn, thought a moment. He then made what would normally be a good call, but it turned out that Patrick Eskandar had trip 9's. The pocket aces were cracked by three of a kind.

A Chip And A Chair

Unfortunately for Jarvis, that meant a huge hit to his chip stack. He suddenly found himself with a much smaller chip stack to play with. Yet, in poker they say that all you need is a chip and a chair.

Luckily, Jarvis is well aware of that. He picked himself up, dusted himself off and composed himself perfectly. As a result, he survived the day. No matter what happens in this year's WSOP, he has shown that he is a powerful player and he'll be getting a big payout for it.

Matthew Jarvis' WSOP Run

Of course, that was his biggest cash in prior to his current potential earnings in the World Series Of Poker 2010 Main Event. He's already in the money and guaranteed more than that $20,000 cash in. So, let's look at his WSOP run so far.

Jarvis survived to day 7 of the Main Event with few major problems. Not only that but, as of day 7, he was sixth in chips over all. That was a pretty comfortable position for him, so he decided to bide his time. He contributed to the 11% that made up the Canadian contenders that remained in the game at that point.

Matthew Jarvis slowly increased his chip stack throughout the day, on day 7. He got involved in some small pots, but he didn't seem to rock the boat at all. He just seemed to be waiting for something. Then, as the day progressed, he got exactly what he was waiting for. At least, he thought that he did.

Hailing from Surray, in British Columbia, Matthew Jarvis has recently shot into the limelight with his position at the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event title. While Matthew was always into poker, it was the online ease that many of the sites offered that made him go on with the game.

There are several advantages of playing poker online; however, the one that we often forget is the new talent that this facility is bringing in to the porker world. Many players like Matthew Jarvis have come up with some great strategy formation and their talent has come to the forefront due to sites that promote poker online.

Having said this let us move on to the various achievements in the field of poker by Matthew Jarvis

World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event title –
This is by far one of the most important achievements of Matthew Jarvis and the final result is yet to be seen. Matthew is now one of the 27 players in the game. He came into the 7th round as a player with the 6th highest number of chips. Rather than play loose, Matthew has instead decided to play tight Instead. The player did not make any major moves through the day. However, he managed to pick up a few small pots and thereby increase his booty. Patrick Eskandar however, caused a huge blow to Matthew, though the latter has to be given marks on how well he conducted himself despite the loss. Jarvis raised to 240,000 from early position and was called by Eskandar on the button; the big blind also called. The flop came down 8d-Kc-9c and Jarvis led out for 425,000. Eskandar took a while to decide and then moved all-in for his last 1.965 million, prompting a fold from the third player. Jarvis called with Ah-As but luck favored Eskandar who came up with red nines.

Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza tournament series-
Matthew has made his mark here and in fact is known to have won quite a few games on this site. Statistics indicate that Matthew has cashed several times and by the end of it won quite a lot on this site.

The British Columbia Poker Championship –
A huge milestone in the journey of Matthew’s poker career the British Columbia Poker Championship was where the world learnt of Matthew. Matthew won more than $20,000 here and also earned himself a place in the final of the tournament. While there is no denying the fact that the runner ups prize is also worth a lot, it is true that Matthew is aiming at the lead winners position and not ready to settle for less.

One cannot over look the talent that Matthew possesses. His game is indeed above par. He seems to be a gem in the making and one is hopeful that in the coming years he will better his game and be classified as one of the best players of poker. Let us wait and watch to see where Matthew takes his poker graph.
